Building our Veggie Garden

This is our new Spring Garden project. Like everyone else we are dealing with this pandemic. So happy to have an outdoor project!

We have had a little vegetable garden for a few years (no fence) but the deer were coming through & enjoying the "all you can eat buffet" we were offering.

If we were going to have a vegetable garden we had to have a deer fence.
Here is the sign I made from an old piece of wood.

This is how we started. My husband took apart our old raised beds & began building new ones.

He laid out the raised beds and built a frame all around it with 4x4's attached to the beds.

Once it was all framed out we wrapped it up with deer fencing connected with zip ties. Found everything we needed on Amazon. Now our friends the deer can look but not touch!

We found pavers on the curb someone was throwing away and used them for our path. Added cedar chips as well. The vintage metal chair you see on the right is going to be used for a fairy garden. (I'll do photos when complete) Looking forward to be able to be with my granddaughter again so we can decorate it together.

Our plan is tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplant, bell peppers, my sunflowers & some lettuce. Maybe some micro-greens in containers.

Here he is..my husband, Barry. He built the most perfect garden and I am so excited to be able to start planting our vegetables. This garden has brought so much joy.

Summer Bliss

Hello friends...
Here we are, going into our second week of August. The sun is hot & it has been feeling like a rain forest in our yard! The vegetables aren't complaining at all.

The love & labor spent in my veggie garden is starting to pay off. Last night for dinner was a feast of  tomato sandwiches made with mayo, fresh bread & a cucumber salad on the side. Maybe tonight will be a tomato sandwich dinner again!!
Savor the love while you can, right?
Be well.

My Vegetable Garden

My veggie garden is my happy place this year.

Although I have had a few visitors...first it was the mother snapping turtle that came up from the lake to lay her eggs between a sunflower & tomato plant. I gave her the respect & space she deserved because I thought it best not to argue with her.
Then there are the deer that like to walk through the yard and take a bite off the top of a few tomato plants and the hostas and the geraniums AND the impatiens !
But I'm not going to complain since I have high hopes and optimism about the abundance of tomatoes that I dream of harvesting.

Thank you for stopping in for my veggie garden tour!
